Funeral for mountain victim
Euryn Williams

The funeral of a popular deputy head teacher who died while walking on Snowdon has taken place.

The body of 56-year-old Euryn Williams from Mold was found a day after he was reported missing on the north Wales mountain on Sunday.

A funeral service for Mr Williams - who taught at Ysgol Maes Garmon in Mold for many years - was held at Cilcain Chapel near the town at 1230 BST, followed by cremation at Pentrebychan in Wrexham.

Bus loads of children from Ysgol Maes Garmon attended the ceremony.

Mr Williams leaves a wife, Lis, who is a teacher at Mold Alun High School, and four children.

A keen mountaineer, Mr Williams had been in training for a 14-peaks walking challenge and was understood not to have been carrying a map or a compass.

He started his walk on Sunday at 1000 BST and the alarm was raised when he failed to return at 2100 BST.

His body was found on the Crib Goch ridge.
