A total of 24 new homes will be built in Knighton, Powys |
Plans have been unveiled for 68 new homes in towns and villages in Powys and Ceredigion. Proposals include converting the site of a former primary school near Brecon and a council workers' yard in Machynlleth.
Mid Wales Housing Association said the much-needed development was its largest for several years.
The association said the new homes, which will vary in size, will take about 18 months to build.
The largest development is in the south-east Powys town of Knighton, where 24 houses will go up.
In Trecastle, near Brecon, the site of the village primary school, which closed a few years ago, will be converted into a combination of two and three-bedroom homes and two small cottages, said the association.
'House sizes'
Meanwhile, at least eight apartments will be built on the former Powys Council workers' yard in Machynlleth.
In addition, five family homes will be built in the nearby villages of Glantwymyn and Dolfach, while seven more are earmarked for Ponterwyd, near Aberystwyth.
John Green, of the Mid Wales Housing Association, said: "With work already well under way on nine new homes at Llanwrin and Derwenlas, the association is set to complete the development of almost 70 new and much-needed homes of the next couple of years.
"The association has been fortunate to be able to work closely with Powys and Ceredigion county councils to secure appropriate development land in areas where there is strong demand for a range of house sizes from single person apartments and cottages to larger four-bedroom family homes."
The association currently has more than 1,200 homes stretching from the Marches to the mid Wales coast.
