Town to have 700,000 facelift
Tregaron
The facelift is expected to boost tourism in the town
A mid Wales town is set to receive a major makeover which is estimated to cost more than 700,000.

Property owners in the historic core of Tregaron will receive grants to help fund the project being run by Tregaron Townscape Heritage Scheme (TTH).

There has also been a successful Objective 1 bid worth 240,000 by Ceredigion County Council.

Other contributors to the pot of money come from both public and private funding bodies.

This is tremendous news for local businesses

Project partners Curiad Caron, a regeneration group, has organised nine themed festivals too once Tregaron, near Aberystwyth, has been 'spruced-up.'

TTH said it would soon be advertising grants.

Tregaron councillor, Councillor Catherine Hughes, said: "This is tremendous news for local businesses, the town will really benefit from a sympathetic facelift and hopefully it will have a knock-on effect stimulating tourism in the town.

"Tregaron used to rely heavily on the agriculture, but now the town has started to realise its potential as a venue for visitors."

Renovations

Caring for Cardigan, a similar scheme in Ceredigion, has been hailed a great success by visitors.

TTH is urging people in Tregaron to plan their property renovations now, as the project will be launched in the autumn.

In December last year, sporting teams in Tregaron were given a boost when a 263,000 project to build new changing rooms was announced.

Ceredigion Council agreed to bump up its contribution to the Tregaron Pavilion Project from 30,000 to 82,000 to enable the scheme to go ahead.

Work on the project, which already had 158,000 promised to it by Sportslot, began in January.
