The town council is looking at an old byelaw to bring in a curfew

However, Presteigne town council will have to wait until at least next month before it knows whether it can go ahead with the proposal.

Meeting on Wednesday night, members were told a new official was looking at the application.

Some in the town say a curfew is unnecessary.

Town mayor Peggy Fraser-Scott said of the bad behaviour: "A lot of it is very petty but some of it is malicious.

"We feel we should nip it in the bud."

Youngsters using skateboards and rollerblades on the town streets after dark is also part of the problem.

But newsagent Maureen Beers thought the issue has been exaggerated.

"I don't get any vandalism in the shop or petty thieving," she said.

"You get a bit of noise outside in the street but I don't think it's a big problem."

Mrs Fraser-Scott said the town council asked Powys council's legal department to look at the issue.

They were told on Wednesday that a new official has been appointed who will look into the request, but she is currently inundated with work.

Members hope to have an answer at their next meeting in May.
