Animal services are being reorganised

The cuts come in a move by the animal charity to save more than �7.5m over the next five years.

The charity is to make 200 staff redundant around the UK, by halving its regional management areas from ten to five.

The control centre at Brecon, which takes calls from members of the public, will be closed and in future calls will go through a national control centre.

The manager of the RSPCA at Brecon said the headquarters is to be downgraded and may be moved out of the town, although a final decision has not yet been made.

Other jobs at the Welsh HQ will be saved but staff are trying to get more information about whether the offices at Brecon will stay open.

A spokesman said RSPCA Cymru will continue and retain its identity.

Staff are to meet union officials on Friday.

At the start of May the RSPCA's governing council decided not to proceed with a threatened reorganisation.

It followed a walkout by staff at the Brecon office in protest over the closure plans.

Those employed at the base include a team of telephone controllers receiving calls round the clock, a press officer, education officer, public affairs officer, manager and a team of audio typists.

The organisation hit financial problems following heavy losses on its stock market investments last year.
