The confused bird even follows Jac into the classroom |
Children at a mid Wales primary school have a new classmate coming to their lessons. Jack the Jackdaw sits in on Year 4 classes at Ysgol Craig yr Wylfa Borth, near Aberystwyth, because of his attachment to nine-year-old pupil, Jac Morris.
The bird follows Jac as he walks to school every morning, shadows him at play time and dinner time, and then flies alongside him when he goes home.
When Jac is having lessons, th bird sits patiently alongside him.
He follows me everywhere. He even came into class but the teacher sent me out and Jac came out with me |
The wild bird decided to join Jac for lessons last week.
But when he first flew in, he ruffled a few feathers, resulting in Jac being sent out of class.
But the nine-year-old is at a loss as to why his avian amour started following him.
"I go out of doors a lot, and one day last week I noticed that this jackdaw had started following me," said Jac.
"He follows me everywhere. He even came into class but the teacher sent me out and Jac came out with me."
The jackdaw learns from head teacher Rhidian Hughes |
Jac said he did not mind the attention the bird was giving him, but added that it was annoying on occasions.
The school's head teacher, Rhidian Hughes, said he believed the unlikely friendship had sprung up because it was the start of the mating season for birds.
"I'm sure that once the bird's hormones settle down, then he will leave Jac alone," said Mr Hughes.
That remains to be seen as the schoolchildren break up for the Easter holidays at the end of this week.
