Cardiff City have launched their club song ready for next month's FA Cup final against Portsmouth.

Bluebirds Flying High is written by James Fox, the UK Eurovision entrant in 2004 and a lifelong Bluebirds fan, who admitted it was a "special challenge".

It includes a "subliminal" chant of fans' terrace favourite Men of Harlech and references to the club's history.

Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale said: "It'd be great to come back with the FA Cup and a number one record."

"It is 80 years since we've had the opportunity to do something this special for our supporters and it wouldn't be a cup final without a cup final song.

'Tapping along'

Bluebirds manager Dave Jones said he thought the song was very catchy.

"I think it's great that James is a supporter. It's all part and parcel of the Wembley build up."

Musician James Fox has been a Cardiff City fan since his father brought him to Ninian Park to be a mascot.

After the launch of the song, he said: "Peter Ridsdale was tapping along there. I mentioned his name in the first chorus so he was happy.

"It seemed to tick all the boxes, it mentions all the different parts of the stadium, lots of the players and our history obviously, with the 1927 win."

And he admitted that writing a football song was a special challenge.

"The chorus has got to be catchy for the supporters to hopefully latch onto and get them singing in the terraces, but it's a very fine line between making it catchy and making it awful."

Referring to the fans who travelled to London to see the club's semi-final victory over Barnsley, he added: "If the 30,000 at Wembley buy it then the club could have a number one and the FA Cup to go with it."
