Dead yachtsman, 62, is identified
Strumble Head
The man was pulled from the sea off Strumble Head
A yachtsman who died after falling overboard off the Pembrokeshire coast has been named by Dyfed-Powys Police.

Lifeboat crews pulled Richard Curtis, 62, unconscious from the sea near Strumble Head on Saturday. He was still attached to his yacht by a lifeline.

Police believe he was trying to adjust his sails when he fell. He alerted coastguards using a handheld radio.

Mr Curtis, who lived aboard his yacht, was sailing from Pwllheli in north Wales to Pembrokeshire.

Insp Dave Sweet said Mr Curtis had been fully equipped for emergencies and his death appeared to be a tragic accident.

Milford Haven coastguard said they received the Mayday call at 0845 BST on Saturday but could not establish communications with the yacht.

Officers contacted vessels in the area and nearby marinas and eventually managed to determine the vessel in need of assistance was a leisure yacht.

They requested the launch of the RNLI lifeboats from St David's and Fishguard and the RAF rescue helicopter from Chivenor in Devon.

Mr Curtis was pulled from the water just after midday on Saturday. He was flown to Withybush hospital in Haverfordwest, but was pronounced dead before arrival.
