A man has died after being pulled unconscious from the sea attached to his boat on a lifeline. The sailor was rescued near Strumble Head in Pembrokeshire after a Mayday call at 0845 BST.
A lifeboat took him ashore and he was then flown to hospital in Haverfordwest by RAF helicopter. Dyfed-Powys Police later confirmed that the man had died.
Coastguards were searching for a second person believed to be on board but police later found the man was alone.
Milford Haven coastguard said they received the Mayday call at 0845 BST on Saturday but could not establish communications with the yacht.
Officers contacted vessels in the area and nearby marinas and eventually managed to determine the vessel in need of assistance was a leisure yacht.
They requested the launch of the RNLI lifeboats from St David's and Fishguard and the RAF rescue helicopter from Chivenor in Devon.
Coastguard teams on land also searched for the boat from vantage points in the area.
The dead man was found in the sea just after midday and was flown to hospital at Haverfordwest.
Police are investigating the incident and the coroner has been informed. They are are in the process of informing the man's family.
