140 jobs created at 10m bakery
Warburtons new bakery at Rogerstone
Building work is underway at the bakery near Newport
A bakery is to create 140 jobs in south Wales as part of a 10m investment.

Warburtons, which already has a depot in the area, has taken over the former Rathbones bakery in Rogerstone near Newport.

The bakery, which will produce 125,000 loaves a day, is expected to be completed by July 2006.

Company chairman, Jonathan Warburton, said it was a "massive investment" that reflected a growing demand for their products in Wales.

The depot in south Wales, which opened in 2001, currently distributes bread baked in Birmingham to south and west Wales, as well as the west of England.

But the company said it needed extra capacity to meet demand.

Lancashire-based Warburtons was founded in 1876 and is still run by the fifth generation of the Warburton family.

It employs more than 3,800 people throughout the UK and produces over 12m bakery products every week.
