The big screen is already used during Cardiff's summer Big Weekend |
Rugby fans who cannot get hold of a ticket for Wales' Grand Slam decider against Ireland in Cardiff have been offered an alternative in the city. Cardiff council and partners are to put up a big screen to allow thousands more to enjoy Wales' biggest game in decades, free of charge.
Bars, catering and toilets will also be set up on the City Hall lawn.
Police have welcomed the move, warning fans not to buy tickets from touts but join in the big match atmosphere.
Saturday's game could see Wales crowned Grand Slam winners for the first time in 27 years.
The council has worked with the Millennium Stadium, South Wales Police, and BBC Wales to organise the live screening - which includes the Italy v France match being shown beforehand at 1300 GMT.
Bars, catering and toilets will also be set up.
Councillor Nigel Howells, the council's executive member for sport, leisure and culture, said: "With the game well over-subscribed, we wanted to give everyone a chance to see the match properly, and indulge in a party atmosphere, just a drop kick away from the action."
Chief Superintendent Bob Evans from South Wales Police urged anyone who wanted to enjoy the atmosphere of Cardiff on a match day but who was without a ticket to go and watch the game on the big screen.
"Do not be tempted to buy any tickets offered you by touts as there is a good chance you may be refused entry to the stadium and be subject to an investigation," he said.
