Lisa Scott-Lee says her home town is 'happening'

Businesses in the north Wales resort hope to generate �500,000 in tourism revenue through the campaign.

Ex-Steps singer Scott-Lee, who is starring in her own reality series, Totally Scott-Lee, said Rhyl and nearby Prestatyn were "happening" places.

She added: "Rhyl is my home town and it still holds a very special place in my heart."

Visitor destination

The Funtime campaign is targeting families in the north west of England and the midlands.

Eight attractions and two restaurants in Rhyl and Prestatyn have joined forces to promote the area as a popular destination for day visitors.

The campaign is funded by the Tourism Partnership North Wales and nearly 500,000 leaflets will be sent out in two waves.

The first batch will be sent out this autumn and the second will be delivered in the spring.

Scott-Lee, whose fly-on-the-wall television show is currently being broadcast on MTV, has been recruited as the face of the campaign.

She said: "I am absolutely delighted to lend my support to the Funtime campaign - Rhyl is my home town and it still holds a very special place in my heart.

"I would like to extend an extremely warm Welsh welcome to families from the midlands to come to experience the delights that Rhyl and Prestatyn have to offer.

"They are brilliant places to bring the kids because, in addition to wonderful beaches, there are loads of things to see and do.

Tourism chiefs say Rhyl has improved in recent years

"The whole area has a happening feel to it these days because Rhyl and Prestatyn are on the up again and I'm convinced it will be a big hit with families who come to visit.

"I have very happy memories of growing up in the area and I'm sure that anybody who comes to visit will also have happy memories of their time in the area."
