It has been a busy time for the north Wales-born star who recently announced plans to launch a solo career.
Lisa has also been managing her three younger brothers who achieved their first hit as the band 3SL. The debut single by Andy, Ant and Steve made it into the top 20 of the UK charts this month after a heavy promotional campaign. But despite the pressures of show-biz, Lisa - a former Brownie - found time to unveil the Girl Guides' new name on Monday. Previously known as The Guide Association, the organisation will now be called Girlguiding UK. The singer said she was pleased to be involved with the project, as she had fond memories of her own time as a member. "Girlguiding UK is a great way for young girls and women to have fun," she said.
"I'm delighted to be helping out with the launch of the new identity, showcasing the fantastic activities that girls can now take part in as members of Girlguiding UK." For the first time in the history of the guides they will also adopt the slogan - 'Surprise Yourself'. Chief Guide, Jenny Leach, said: "The 'Surprise Yourself' element emphasises that both young and adult members of Girlguiding UK continually surprise themselves by what they do, and when non-members really see what we offer, they too are surprised." The guides are Britain's largest voluntary organisation for girls and young women, with more than 600,000 members. 'Valuble skills' Chief Executive, Denise King, hopes the new name will be more recognisable and therefore increase awareness of their work. "The new identity is part of an ongoing programme to ensure Guiding remains relevant and appealing to girls while maintaining our core values," she said. "Girlguiding UK offers girls the opportunity to learn dynamic and valuable skills that will prove useful throughout their lives." One of the first campaigns launched under the new name will be the 'Take Our Daughters to Work Day', which takes place on Thursday 25th April. It will encourage people to take young women and girls into the workplace to show them the different types of careers and opportunities open to them. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Wales stories now: Links to more Wales stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
