Aldi has 5,000 stores around the world
A supermarket firm says it will create up to 200 jobs when it builds regional headquarters in Cardiff.

Retail chain Aldi has picked the city for its 30 million regional office and distribution warehouse covering Wales and the West country.

First Minister Rhodri Morgan inspected the 28-acre site on a visit to Capital Business Park at Wentloog.

The construction work for the Germany-based firm is expected to create an additional 100 jobs.

Aldi, which has 5,000 stores worldwide, said it was looking for about a dozen more sites in south Wales.

The Cardiff-based firm JR Smart (Builders) is developing the business park on which Aldi's new offices will be located.

JR Smart chairman John Smart said: "We are delighted that Aldi, which is one of the largest and most successful supermarket businesses in Europe, has recognised the merits of Capital Business Park.

"Aldi has been attracted to our development by the superb access the park offers to the M4 and the surrounding region.

"The pressure on employment sites elsewhere in Cardiff from alternative uses continues to mark Wentloog as an attractive location for both inward investors and relocating local companies."

Cardiff Council has welcomed the proposal, saying it would help diversify the economy of the city.
