'Unsafe' supermarket closes
An Aldi supermarket which opened less than six months ago has been closed after significant structural defects were discovered.

The store, on Marine Road West on Morecambe promenade, was badly damaged by strong winds over the weekend.

The entire gable to the west elevation had collapsed onto neighbouring undeveloped land.

Inspectors from Lancaster City Council inspected the building and remaining roof on Monday.

They said "significant" defects were found which suggested that other gable walls were inadequately supported and could be unsafe.

Aldi say the store will remain closed until modifications have been completed.

Temporary security fencing has been put up to keep the public out.
