Fatal Christmas crash 'accidental'

A verdict of accidental death has been recorded on a 12-year-old north Wales girl killed in a crash a few days before Christmas.

Jade Parry was in a car with her mother, Wendy Parry, 36. Her sister Chelsea, aged four, was left paralysed, and her brother Connor, eight, and other sister, Paige, seven, were also seriously injured.

Mrs Parry, of Cemaes Bay, Anglesey, told police that she had been returning home from shopping in the family BMW.

The inquest at Llangefni heard that her last memory was of swerving at a right hand bend.

The BMW was moving sideways across the A5025 road at Dulas when it was involved in a collision with a Vauxhall Nova going in the opposite direction.

The whole family was severely damaged and life won't be the same for any of them
Coroner Dewi Pritchard-Jones

The driver of the Nova, Dylan Peters Williams, a 21-year-old farmworker, said he saw the BMW sliding into his path.

Coroner Dewi Pritchard-Jones said Jade, who had been in the front seat, had suffered "horrendous" injuries.

There was no mechanical defect to explain the tragedy, but the inquest heard that the road surface was worn and was resurfaced a few weeks after the accident.

Accident investigator PC Colin Graham said the BMW had been travelling at no more than 50mph.

There is a 60mph speed limit on the road, but local people have campaigned for it to be reduced, following five previous fatal accidents.

Mr Pritchard-Jones said the reason for the accident would remain a mystery.

"From the evidence, I can't really say what caused the BMW to turn to its right and be directly across the road," he said.

"It could be driver error, it could be a combination of driver error in the form of speed and road surface.

"But the evidence doesn't really say which one so I can't make a finding. What is incredibly sad, although all accidents are sad, is that this particular incident had such disastrous consequences. "

Jade had "suffered serious injuries that led to her instant death", the coroner said.

The other children were also left with serious injuries. One suffered paralysis of the lower limbs, another suffered serious head injuries, and the third was also badly hurt.

"The whole family was severely damaged and life won't be the same for any of them," the coroner said.

Jade's father John Parry said after the verdict :"In this horrific event my wife and I lost our beloved daughter whose smile will be with us forever."
