The ubiquitous Hain

No prizes for guessing who'll be the busiest man at next week's Labour conference in Bournemouth. Peter "two jobs" Hain is scheduled to speak at no fewer than nine fringe meetings. His specialist subjects include the trustworthiness of politicians and whether the wheels have fallen off New Labour. Delegates will find themselves no more than a couple of hours from a speech by the Welsh Secretary/Leader of the House. For those who miss him by the seaside, he's expected to appear on Question Time next Thursday.

Bourne's brave face
posted by David | 1145 BST | Add comment

The Tory assembly leader Nick Bourne has been trying to put a brave face on the escape plans of David Davies AM.

Four months after persuading the voters of Monmouth to send him to Cardiff Bay, Mr Davies has been chosen to fight the same seat at the next general election.

Mr Bourne says that his rule that AMs should not seek Westminster seats applied only to the first assembly term.

"However, now that we are in the second term it is important for people to make transitions - from the Assembly to Westminster, or vice versa".

Vice versa? Does Mr Bourne know something we don't?

Stand by for the Tory stampede from Westminster. I'm told bookmakers will offer long odds on Iain Duncan Smith or Nigel Evans opting for life in Cardiff Bay, but you never know.
