The 16-year-old who last month achieved a top three hit with her first pop song told of her aspiration to pen a book in an interview with BBC's Top of The Pops.

The soprano, who passed all seven of her GSCEs with A grades last summer before leaving her private girls' school in Cardiff, said: "I'd love to be a writer.

"Maybe a songwriter, or write books or something like that.

"I love English, I love writing and reading and stuff.

"And I love psychology and philosophy and I love ancient history so anything to do with any of those things.

"I wrote my autobiography at 13 which was pretty stupid, because I hadn't done anything at that age.

"So I might do a trilogy, like do one at 30, and one at 45 if I'm still going - but also do a proper book," she said.

Church is keen to diversify her musical style

Church whose anthem single, The Opera Song (Brave New World) is currently at number five in the charts, would also like to experiment with her musical style

"It is kind of like a new side of me but I'm not going to go into dance music," she said.

"I recorded two tracks but I don't think the second one's going to be released because it's really hardcore trance.

"I want to go into kind of mixed soul and funk and rock together and see what I come up with.

"Just a really eclectic mix of different musical types, like a bit of world music and loads of different styles of music chucked together to see what it sounds like."

Church, who has been dating Steven Johnson, a part time DJ from her home city of Cardiff, admitted that life in the spotlight has been hard.

"The advantages (of being famous) is obviously the money that you get, the places you get to travel to and to meet so many people - really, really interesting people.

"Getting free clothes, getting your hair and make-up done all the time, that's really cool.

"But then the disadvantages are just kind of like, it's a lot of pressure.

"You have a lot of responsibility because you know there's a lot of people working round you, and so their jobs depend on you.

"So it's quite a lot of responsibility and stuff like that.

"And then of course there's always the press and that can be quite stressful but I've learned to ignore it now, but apart from that it's cool.

'Harsh industry'

"It is all about business. It's all about selling records and so people are quite nice to your face but treat you so differently behind your back.

"It's just harsh. It's a harsh industry to be in, the music business, it does make you grow up quite quick."

When asked if it was true that her parents disliked her boyfriend, she said: "Yeah it is true, they're not too fussed on him.

"They just don't like him at all, really, but I like him and they still like me so its okay.

"It's a bearable situation," she added.
