| Thursday, 5 December, 2002, 11:38 GMT Bond villain's car draws crowds ![]() The car features in the movie's dramatic ice chases James Bond fans in Swansea flocked to see one of the stars of the latest 007 adventure Die Another Day. But it was not Pierce Brosnan or Halle Berry drawing the crowds - it was the green Jaguar that features in the movie's dramatic car chases across the ice plains of Iceland.
Complete with machine gun and rocket launchers, the XKR convertible took up residence at a garage on the Enterprise Park. It was a rare chance for moviegoers to see the car in south Wales. In the film, the Jaguar is driven by evil henchman General Zao - the only Bond bad guy ever to have his own gadget-ridden car. Zao pursues 007, who is behind the wheel of an Aston Martin Vanquish, around the chilly lair of millionaire Gustav Graves as the special agent attempts to rescue Jinx (Halle Berry). The display car - with armaments - would cost more than 200,000 to buy. "It is stunning, a bright colour with red-pointed rockets on the front, machine gun on top and missile launchers in the boot," said Alan Westwood, the general manager at the dealership. Restricted access The film's popularity at the box office led to similar queues forming at the garage. "Children are streaming in after school with their parents," said Mr Westwood on Wednesday night, although he could not be sure whether the children or the parents were more excited.
Bond fan Mr Westwood secured the visit after Jaguar offered the car out to its dealerships around the UK. He was even happy to put up with damage to his showroom. "The snow studs are still on and are scratching the floor, but we're not worried about that," he said. Although the doors are fixed, small children were lifted in to sit in the driving seat. But only one adult was allowed to get in. "One of us had to get in to move it," said Mr Westwood. "I volunteered for that." If you are looking to buy yourself a Christmas treat, a similar car with the same green finish would set you back 67,700, although armaments would cost extra. |
