| Tuesday, 12 November, 2002, 09:58 GMT Halle heads for 'Bond spin-off' ![]() Berry won her Oscar for Monster's Ball Halle Berry's role as Jinx in the new Bond film could have won her the lead in a spin-off spy movie. Oscar winner Berry revealed she is in talks with MGM and 007 producers Eon Productions about reprising the Jinx role in what would become the first Bond-based spin-off series in the franchise's 40-year history.
Jinx - Berry's character in the latest Bond, Die Another Day - is a highly trained US agent who both rivals Bond and works with him to catch the movie's villain. Celebrity cable network E! Entertainment quotes Berry as saying that if a spin-off movie was planned she "would do it in a heartbeat". "Jinx is sexy," said Berry. "She is sure of her sexuality and how to use it, almost as a weapon. "She is very intelligent. She is Bond's equal. She saves him a few times in the movie, and they have a great partnership." Rumours But the star has also revealed in interviews that she is currently developing four to five other projects. She is already signed to star in Need, playing a New York therapist who learns that one of her suicidal patients is having an affair with her husband. Berry has committed to October Squall, a drama in which she will play a rape victim and an X-Men sequel is also being discussed.
"What happens in this town is when you start talking about a project, when you are thinking about if you want to be involved, all of a sudden it's in the paper that you are doing it," said Berry. "That's how it goes. It's out of my control," she added. For years, film makers have speculated on how audiences might respond to a female super spy and there have been rumours before about Bond spin-offs. When martial arts movie star Michelle Yeoh played Bond girl Wai-Lin in 1997's Tomorrow Never Dies, there was talk of her starring in a spin-off movie. But the film was never made. |
