| Thursday, 14 November, 2002, 16:33 GMT Woman in court over 'Pudsey' streak ![]() Clare Morgan's antics did not distract the Welsh players A Swansea woman who streaked for charity during an international rugby match has appeared before magistrates in Cardiff. Clare Morgan, 23, from Dunvant, performed her bare dare during Wales' match against Fiji at the Millennium Stadium last Saturday to raise money for the BBC's annual Children in Need appeal.
She says she did not plan the stunt but decided to do it after being challenged by friends to raise 300 for the charity fund. At a hearing on Thursday, Miss Morgan was conditionally discharged but was ordered to pay 55 costs. The court heard how she had turned up to watch the game wearing a jacket, boots and a Welsh flag draped around her as a skirt. Just after Wales score their first try she tore her clothes off and ran onto the pitch in front of 35,000 fans.
She was tackled on the 22-metre line by a steward and marched out of the stadium to be charged with breaching public order. Prosecutor Sian Phillips said youngsters in the crowd "were visibly shocked at her behaviour". Miss Morgan, who wore a short grey skirt, a white top and lilac jacket for her court appearance admitted the offence. Geraint Jones, defending, said that Miss Morgan was in the process of raising money in a more legitimate way. But he said: "After a few drinks, the subject of streaking came up. "She was offered donations by friends to do it. Prank "It is probably not an appropriate way to raise money but it seemed as a good idea at the time. "It was something of a prank and it was somewhat foolish." A spokesman for BBC Children in Need - which stages its annual fund-raising day on Friday -said: "While we appreciate the vivacity of Clare's efforts, we do stress that fund-raising events must be within the law." | See also: 13 Jul 01 | Wales 05 Aug 00 | UK 16 May 00 | Wales 08 May 00 | Wales 10 Jun 00 | UK Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Wales stories now: Links to more Wales stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
