Town plagued by surge in streakers
nudists
Tourists flock to Mumbles for different views to these
A seaside town in south Wales is having to deal with a new sort of bare-faced cheek - a surge in nudist activity right on their doorstep.

Shop owners on the Mumbles resort in Swansea have been shocked by a spate of streakers baring all in the middle of the day and have called on police to tackle the problem.

The beach at Mumbles is used by families
The well-known Mumbles Mile nightspot is used to revellers baring their souls after a few drinks.

But residents have said the flashing in broad daylight has shocked tourists.

Co-op manager Ben Winser said two youngsters streaked outside his store last Saturday, to the disgust of staff and customers.

'Not funny'

He said: "We have had the problem of streaking before in Mumbles, but not usually in the afternoon.

"When there are young children around, this sort of thing isn't very funny.

"From a business point of view, we don't want people coming to the shop to see streakers outside.

"That is going to make them think twice about going into the store."

Police call

The Mumbles area is a popular tourist, student and family retreat famous for its mile of 15 pubs and clubs, nineteenth century pier, Oystermouth Castle and entertainment.

With the summer tourism season now in full swing, Mumbles Community Council has also called on South Wales Police to sort out the strippers.

Councillor Val Bevan said it was an ongoing problem in the village.

"It seems to me that we have streakers here every Saturday," she said. "It is not funny, it is awful."

Chief Inspector Mark Mathias, who works in the area, confirmed that officers had been called out to tackle the problem.
