| Wednesday, 16 October, 2002, 22:08 GMT 23:08 UK Ringtone saves bride's blushes ![]() A tinny Here Comes the Bride ringtone came to the rescue of a bride who was left without an organist to play her down the aisle. After a slight delay to the church service, while the congregation waited for the missing organist, roof tiler Darren Medd came up with the ringtone solution. Mr Medd, from Merthyr Tydfil, remembered he had the necessary tune stored on his mobile and played it out loud to pass the time. But then the minister stepped in and asked him to play it for real to allow the service to get under way.
Mr Medd was asked to hold his mobile up to a microphone and play the tune as bride Tracey Muxworthy, 30, from Trecynon, near Aberdare, south Wales, made her way down the aisle to tie the knot with groom Ian Davies. "I knew I had the bridal march on my phone so I stuck it on and everyone had a really good laugh," said 35-year-old Mr Medd. "About 10 minutes later the organist still wasn't there so the minister came and asked me if I could put it on again. "I went to the front row and he brought a microphone round. "It was probably the fastest wedding march you'll ever hear." 'Smirking' Miss Muxworthy's mother Joyce, from Penywaun, Aberdare, said her daughter, 30, had not been put out by the alternative tune. "My husband said she was smirking all over her face," she said. "I think everybody had a giggle." The organist, who had thought the wedding was booked for 4pm, he turned up just in time to play for the newly-weds as they left Green Street Methodist Church in Aberdare. The happy couple, having first met in Blackpool, chose the tune Oh, I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside, instead of the traditional Wedding March by Mendelssohn. |
