| Saturday, 21 September, 2002, 11:50 GMT 12:50 UK Bus firm bans badly behaved pupils ![]() The council are looking for another bus company A bus company has banned pupils at a Roman Catholic school in Cardiff from its vehicles because of bad behaviour. The firm withdrew the contract after one driver was spat at and another witnessed a chocolate bar being thrown out of a window at a passer-by.
Cardiff council, which manages the contract, is now looking for another company to take up the daily runs to and from the Mary Immaculate High School in Ely. The local authority said that is trying to tackle the "serious behavioural problems". Director of the bus firm - Pontypridd-based Shamrock Travel, Clayton Jones, said the situation had got out of control. "One kid threw a Mars Bar and it actually hit somebody on the other side of the road. "In 10 days we have had six incidents on the three different services that go to that school. "We are not prepared to put up with it any more. "The majority of children are well behaved but the exceptions to the rule are putting drivers through hell. New term The firm - which transports more than 10,000 pupils to schools across south Wales - said behaviour on the Mary Immaculate buses was the worst they have ever seen. The company has been taking pupils to and from the school for four years. Mr Jones said they had a few problems last year but were hoping the situation would change with the start of the new term on 4 September. However a week after the beginning of term the company informed the council that they no longer wanted to take the pupils to school. One of the buses has been fitted with a CCTV system to help identify individuals causing trouble. | See also: 04 Mar 02 | Wales 19 Sep 02 | England 10 Jun 02 | Wales 07 Jun 02 | N Ireland 10 May 02 | Wales Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Wales stories now: Links to more Wales stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
