Falls boy's mother arrives for funeral
Herve Bola's family hold prayers at the pool where he drowned
The family held a service at the spot where Herve died
A woman whose son died while on an outdoor activities trip to south Wales is flying in from Africa for his funeral.

Thirty-seven-year-old Muzingwa Bokwa from the Democratic Republic of Congo was due to arrive at Gatwick Airport near London on Saturday afternoon to attend Herve Bola's funeral next month.

Herve's family said he could not swim

Herve, 16, drowned on a visit to a waterfall and popular beauty spot near Pontneddfechan in the Neath Valley on 29 July.

The teenager - who was said to be unable to swim - died after jumping into the water to cool off.

His mother is expected to visit the scene at the Sgwd y Gladys Falls - known locally as the Lady Falls - during her UK visit.

Last week, other members of Herve's family, including his grandmother and cousin, held a service there before taking the teenager's body home to Essex.

The boy's cousin Alan Esale, 38, from Ilford in Essex, said Mrs Bokwa was coming to the UK for her son's funeral.

"We don't really know how long she will stay because she's going to have to wait for the inquest.

"As far as I know, she would definitely like to visit the scene in Wales."

Herve was among a group of youngsters on an outdoor activities course at a centre in Herefordshire when the tragedy happened.

The Glasbury House Centre is owned by his local council, the London Borough of Redbridge, which had an unblemished safety record over its 40 years existence, according to a spokesman.

Eyewitnesses to the accident said Herve got into difficulty after jumping into the river to cool off.

He was pronounced dead at the scene after he was pulled out of the water by Kieron Williams, a 17-year-old local boy.

Two police officers had also jumped in to try to save the teenager.

Following the incident, Herve's family said that he could not swim.

Jason Dalton

His grandmother, Francoise Bola, 57, who has looked after him since he came to the UK four years ago, was "devastated and shocked" by the tragedy, Mr Esale said.

A post-mortem examination confirmed the cause of death as drowning.

The police and the Health and Safety Executive have launched investigations into exactly what happened.

An inquest into his death has been opened and adjourned.

Legal action

Herve's funeral is due to take place at Wanstead crematorium, east London on 2 September.

The area where the accident happened is in the Brecon Beacons National Park, and is popular with walkers for its caves, rivers and gorges.

On Wednesday, an inquest into the death of a 17-year old from Bargoed in south Wales heard how the youngster died last August just a couple of miles away from the scene of Herve Bola's death.

Jason Dalton drowned while on a field trip after jumping into the river to try to save his lecturer who survived the incident.

Following the inquest it emerged that Jason's family was considering taking legal action.

The Health and Safety Executive was also deciding whether to bring charges.
