| Thursday, 15 August, 2002, 07:08 GMT 08:08 UK Rail disruption may continue ![]() The industrial action hit many services in north Wales The disruption for rail travellers in north Wales may not be over despite a two-day strike by train drivers ending on Wednesday night. The rail passengers group is warning that some engines might not have been parked in their usual place when the strike started.
Group spokesman DaAnyone travelling deep into into England will be waiting until, let's say, mid Thursday morning." Rail passengers in much of north Wales faced misery on Tuesday and Wednesday as drivers for First North Western took the 48-hour action. Routes from Holyhead to Crewe, Llandudno to Blaenau Ffestiniog and Wrexham to Bidston were affected although buses replaced some services. Virgin services from Holyhead were also hit after drivers - who are employed on contract by First North Western - went on strike in sympathy with their colleagues. Operator First North Western and the union ASLEF are locked in talks over pay and conditions. More strikes planned The industrial action had been called off, but was reinstated last week when a deal on pay collapsed. Talks continued on Tuesday to try to resolve the pay and working conditions dispute. The drivers' union, Aslef, claimed First North Western had introduced "new and unacceptable" proposals, including drivers taking responsibility for litter at stations. The train company insisted it had not changed the agreement which would give drivers a 19% pay rise over three years and said the union had "reneged" on the deal. More strikes are planned from 27 August and 10 September. | See also: 14 Aug 02 | Wales 06 Aug 02 | England 26 Jul 02 | England 17 Jul 02 | England 08 Oct 02 | Wales 12 Apr 02 | Wales 02 Apr 02 | Wales Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Wales stories now: Links to more Wales stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
