More misery for rail passengers
A graphic of rail lines in north Wales hit by stoppages
A number of rail lines have been hit by the strike
Rail passengers in much of north Wales have faced more misery on Wednesday as drivers for First North Western continue their 48-hour strike.

Routes from Holyhead to Crewe, Llandudno to Blaenau Ffestiniog and Wrexham to Bidston are all affected although buses have been working to replace some services.

Operator First North Western and the union ASLEF are locked in talks over pay and conditions.

The industrial action had been called off, but was reinstated last week when a deal on pay collapsed.

Talks continued on Tuesday to try to resolve the pay and working conditions dispute.

The drivers' union, Aslef, claims First North Western had introduced "new and unacceptable" proposals, including drivers taking responsibility for litter at stations.

The train company insisted it had not changed the agreement which would give drivers a 19% pay rise over three years and said the union had "reneged" on the deal.

First North Western Managing Director Vernon Baker had said the strike should not be going ahead.

"First North Western has done its utmost to avert the strike action.

"We believe that we reached a very good agreement that Aslef signed up to."

The 48-hour stoppage began at midnight on Tuesday.

More strikes are planned from 27 August and 10 September.
