One of the most popular beaches in west Wales is up for sale, because the owner's wife is homesick for her native Far East.

Oil company engineer Kevin Lindsell bought Saundersfoot beach near Tenby five years ago.

But now his 37-year-old wife is hankering after life back in Singapore.

The stretch of sand is on the market for �377,750.

As well as the half-mile stretch of beach, the price-tag includes an ice cream business, a fleet of vans and a chalet.

But any prospective buyer will have to find somewhere to live as there is no house included in the deal.

"I have always enjoyed telling people I own a beach, but now it is someone else's turn," he said.

Mr Lindsell denied he was selling up because of a drop in visitors to the area.

Despite neighbouring Tenby having gained a reputation for attracting young people for stag and hen weekends, Saundersfoot is still popular with tourists.

"Saundersfoot still attracts people for traditional family holidays - and ice creams as popular as ever," said Mr Lindsell.

An ice cream business is also included

When the couple bought the business in 1997, they had planned to move into semi-retirement.

"It's a summer-time business and, in the winter, you're relatively free."

But Mr Lindsell has still maintained a part-time interest in the oil business, working on contracts abroad.

As well as the Saundersfoot beach, Mr Lindsell is also selling the ice-cream licence for four neighbouring beaches, including Tenby.

The beach and its attached ice-cream business is being marketed via an internet agency - www.BusinessesForSale.com - and there have already been a number of potential buyers.

The beach has been up for sale but the sudden rush of warm weather has attracted interested buyers.

A spokeswoman for the agents said: "It is very tempting to a lot of people to own a stretch of golden sands.

"Just think of all the sandcastles you could make."
