A royal expert has predicted that Camilla Parker Bowles will not be given the title of Princess of Wales if she marries Prince Charles.

Harold Brooks-Baker, of Burke's Peerage, has claimed the Queen would use a "special provision" to prevent Camilla taking the title.

Instead, Mrs Parker Bowles might become the Countess of Truro.

"If Charles and Camilla marry she would automatically become Princess of Wales - unless the Queen made a special provision," said Mr Brooks-Baker.

"I'm sure the Queen will do this.

"I believe Camilla will be given the title Countess of Truro, as Truro is a city falling within one of Prince Charles' other titles as Duke of Cornwall," he added.

Prince Charles is due to bring Camilla with him on a three-day tour of Mid and North Wales later in July, but Camilla is not expected to take part in any public engagements.

Last year, Prince Charles indicated that he may one day remarry when he was asked about Mrs Parker Bowles during an interview.

The Prince of Wales answered: "Who knows what the good Lord has planned? You can't be certain about anything."

Since his marriage to Diana, Princess of Wales, ended in 1996 with admissions of adultery on both sides, St James's Palace had previously said the heir to the throne had no intention of marrying divorcee Mrs Parker Bowles.

In March, Camilla accompanied Charles to a classical concert at Buckingham Palace - the second time the Queen has met Ms Parker Bowles.
