New talks likely at Grangemouth

Talks are likely to take place next week between unions and management at Grangemouth oil refinery, BBC Scotland has learned.

It is also understood that the company has withdrawn, for now, its proposal to close the final salary pension scheme for new employees.

This is the main issue at the heart of the industrial dispute which sparked last weekend's 48 hour strike.

Jim Ratcliffe, owner of the refinery met union leaders earlier this week.

Those discussions were described as constructive and appeared to have paved the way for further talks towards the end of next week between Ineos and the Unite union.

Both the unions and the company believe further talks are a positive step towards resolving the damaging dispute which shut-down the refinery, caused petrol shortages last weekend and closed BP's Forties pipeline.

The fresh talks are likely to take place at the Grangemouth site.
