Police are urging people to check identification thoroughly |
Tayside Police are hosting a special crime prevention seminar aimed at raising awareness of bogus caller crime in Perth. The seminar was held at the AK Bell Library in the town on Friday and attended by local businesses.
Members of the caring and social services also attended.
Det Ch Insp Roddy Ross said it was important that elderly and vulnerable people were protected against this type of crime.
"Bogus callers come in all different guises, " he said.
Check identification
"But their aim is always the same - to get in your home to see what they can steal."
He urged people to insist on seeing identification before allowing people access to their homes and checking that identification thoroughly.
Det Ch Insp Ross added: "Never use the telephone number listed on any identification card they hand over, always use the number listed in the telephone directory or yellow pages.
"Above all, if you have elderly neighbours, please look out for them and if you see anyone acting suspiciously in your area, get in touch with the police."
