Electronics manufacturer NCR has asked for staff in Dundee to consider coming forward for voluntary redundancy. The US cash machine producer announced in January that it was to cut more than 600 posts at its plant in the city.
Speaking after a meeting between the workforce and the employer, NCR said staff had been invited to come forward through the redundancy scheme.
The company said it hoped to minimise the number of compulsory job cuts it may have to make.
A task force has been set up to combat the economic effects of NCR's job cuts on Dundee and has submitted an action plan to the Scottish Executive.

The firm also said in January that about 100 staff would be kept on to make products developed by the company's research department.
Talks have been ongoing with management at NCR over packages for the compulsory job losses.
The company also announced that the number of jobs being axed had been reduced from the initial 650 to 616.
An NCR spokeswoman said: "Through the voluntary redundancy scheme the company hopes to minimise the compulsory redundancies which are necessary.
"We will be discussing the voluntary package available with each individual who registers an interest."
