Council staff hold further strike
Pay slip
The union said the council imposed draconian pay cuts
Hundreds of Falkirk Council workers have gone on strike for the second time amid a row over new contracts.

As well as the 24-hour action, the T&G union said there would be a continuous ban on overtime over claims staff were dealt "draconian" pay cuts.

The cdouncil said the moves were needed to meet equal pay laws. It said it had added 2.5m a year to the wage budget.

The action by more than 400 T&G members has hit care homes, street cleaning and rubbish collection services.

The union claimed some of the local authority's lowest paid staff could be hit with pay cuts of more than 1,500 a year.

T&G regional organiser Scott Foley said: "Our members are angry that they are facing imposed changes and angry that their commitment is being taken for granted.

"They want to carry on doing their jobs and caring for people without having to look over their shoulder all the time."

Staff took part in a day of strike action in December, as the council insisted that it had met union demands.
