Scotland is seen as an attractive place for migrant workers

A new leaflet has been produced which explains the role of police, Scottish law and contacts for public services.

The move followed concern in Aberdeenshire over the number of migrant workers caught drunk in charge of motor vehicles.

The leaflet has been produced in English, Polish, Lithuanian and Slovak.

Clackmannanshire Council and Central Scotland Police said migrants arriving in the area for the first time required significant guidance as to their rights.

Sgt John Baillie, of the force's diversity unit, said: "There are often language barriers, fear or suspicion of authorities and a general lack of awareness and knowledge of the laws and customs of the country," he said.

"These factors often combine to make people isolated from main stream services and in the case of migrant workers, they can become vulnerable to exploitation."
