Murray cropped back for charity

Britain's number one tennis player Andy Murray has helped raise more than 10,000 with a charity hair cut.

Radio 1 DJ and Celebrity Scissorhands contestant Scott Mills took on the role of hairdresser to raise the money for Children In Need.

Murray, who has become known for his unkempt mop, had previously held a poll on his website to choose a style.

Mills offered to cut the hair if he could raise the money from listeners in 24 hours.

The much-needed haircut took place at a salon in west London.

Mills has recently appeared on the BBC's Celebrity Scissorhands show but was said to be nervous beforehand.

Listeners who pledged money also have a chance to win a training session with Murray and his coach, Brad Gilbert.

Murray, from Dunblane, had not had his hair cut professionally for 18 months.

He said he would sometimes take out his frustration of a bad defeat on the court by cutting it himself.

"I was pretty angry so I went back to my hotel and I filled up literally my whole bin," Murray said.
