School building project approved
A multi-million pound project to build new schools in Perth and Kinross has been approved by councillors.

The �100m move will result in several new primary and secondary schools in the area, as well as nursery and community facilities.

The public private partnership project has been the biggest embarked upon by Perth and Kinross Council.

Private firm Axiom Education will take forward the design, construction and operation of the six campuses.

SCHOOL DETAILS
Aberfeldy - replacing Breadalbane Academy
Blairgowrie - replacing Hill Primary School and St Stephen's Primary School
Crieff - replacing Crieff High School
Kinross - replacing Kinross High School
Perth - replacing St Columba's High School and St John's Primary School
Perth South - replacing Caledonian Road Primary School and Friarton Nursery
All primary schools being built will have nursery services

The new facilities have been approved by the local authority's development control committee.

It is hoped that building work will start in the autumn, with the new schools opening between 2008 and 2010.

The move to deliver "21st century learning and community facilities for Perth and Kinross" has received funding from Scottish ministers.
