An investigation is under way following the discovery
Police and environmental officials have launched a joint investigation after chemical waste was found dumped about a mile from the Falkirk Wheel.

The various drums and bottles were discovered near the Roughmute Refuse Centre on Tuesday night.

Police, fire and rescue personnel and Scottish Environment Protection Agency officials have now launched a public appeal following the incident.

Part of the A883 road was closed following the find.

'No environmental harm'

Experts were called in to dispose of all of the chemicals following the discovery.

Central Scotland Police Chief Inspector Brian Rennie said: "We would urge anyone who has information in relation to the dumping of these chemicals or witnessed any suspicious activity at the site to get in contact."

Sepa officer Ewen Foster said uncontrolled waste disposal was a dangerous activity, adding: "Fortunately on this occasion the agencies and public authorities acted swiftly and ensured that as far as can be ascertained there has been no environmental harm.

"We would encourage everyone to consider the impact of their actions, whether it is in their home, business, local community and environment when disposing of their waste."
