Crackdown on youth holiday crime
Teenagers
Police have helped organise events to cut summer youth crime
Police in Tayside have warned they are ready to clamp down on young people causing trouble in the school holidays.

Officers will be using CCTV vans and anti-social behaviour legislation in the fight against youth crime.

Police said they would also be patrolling off licences and warned that adults caught buying alcohol for under 18s would face a court appearance.

Officers have urged both young people and other members of the community to have respect for each other.

'Respect needs'

Tayside Police has also joined forces with community and youth representatives in the Lochee area of Dundee to provide youngsters with "beneficial" summer activities, such as street football.

Lochee community liaison officer Sgt Ian Leiper said: "Large groups of young people congregating outside shops or in school grounds, underage drinking and rowdy behaviour can cause fear among the community.

"I think it is important that young people recognise that their needs and issues have been respected by all sections of their local community who have provided both resources and funding to meet those needs.

"Therefore, it is equally important that young people respect the needs of other sections of the community."

Details of planned activities are available at community centres.
