The investment will require councillor approval |
Plans to spend more than 61m on council housing in Dundee have been announced by the city council. It said the three-year investment was needed to bring accommodation up to required standards.
There has also been a lack of demand by tenants to transfer homes across to housing associations.
The work would involve a variety of projects, including urgent structural repairs, adaptations for disabled people and energy efficiency measures.
Dundee city councillors will be asked to approve the move next week.
'Tremendous benefits'
Dundee City Council leader Jill Shimi said: "Our commitment to council housing in Dundee is reflected in the fact that in excess of 185m will be invested on our stock over the next 10 years.
"This huge investment takes in a major kitchen and bathroom upgrading programme that starts this year."
Council housing convener Councillor George Regan said the investment would have tremendous benefits for tenants.
"We recognise that people's housing aspirations have changed and that is one of the reasons we have been taking away the type of houses that people no longer want to rent from us," he said.
"This frees up land for redevelopment to pave the way for community regeneration and enables us to concentrate on upgrading our housing stock."
