Mr Moore has tabled a motion at Westminster |
A parliamentary motion has been lodged over concerns about ITV plans to merge news coverage for the south of Scotland and Cumbria with Tyne Tees. Borders Lib Dem MP Michael Moore hopes his Early Day Motion will be backed by politicians across the Border TV area.
He claims the move contradicts ITV's public service obligations.
ITV Chairman Michael Grade has said the current set-up of regional newsrooms is not sustainable and the proposal is part of a plan to improve programming.
ITV hopes to reduce its number of regional newsrooms from 17 to nine.
Border TV currently covers the south of Scotland and Cumbria but it has been proposed for its news service to be based in Gateshead.
Mr Moore's motion urges ITV to revise its plans or, if it does not, asks media watchdog OFCOM to reject them.
