Journalists working for most of ITV's regional newsrooms are to hold a one-day strike next month over pay. More than 300 members of the National Union of Journalists in England and Wales, all working outside of London, will walk out on 18 April.
The NUJ said members had "no option" but to strike and warned that further industrial action was likely.
ITV said it took the action seriously but was confident services would be maintained and viewers not affected.
New technology
A spokesman said only 15% of its regional editorial staff of 600 had voted for the strike action.
He said the organisation had invested in new newsroom technology and training for staff to put them "at the forefront of news provision".
He added: "Given this we do not think it is appropriate to make enhanced responsibility payments."
NUJ national officer Paul McLaughlin said ITV had not addressed pay concerns.
The broadcaster reported a 36% rise in annual profits earlier this month and unveiled plans to launch new "participation TV" channel ITV Play.
ITV won three prizes at last month's Royal Television Society's (RTS) awards for journalism.
