Thousands of Borderers will receive the new radio service |
The BBC has confirmed it is to extend its DAB digital radio coverage to the Scottish Borders. A new transmitter will bring the service to another 40,000 people in the Melrose, Galashiels and Hawick area.
BBC Chief Operating Officer Caroline Thomson said that it would allow digital services in Scotland and England to "join up".
The new transmitter will be located at Selkirk and is hoped to be in service by the beginning of winter 2007.
Digital radio listeners will be able to tune in to the BBC's portfolio of digital-only stations.
