Mr Moore fears his area will miss out on some channels

Lib Dem Michael Moore said many people in the Scottish Borders received their signals from relay stations.

He claimed that would mean fewer channels were available to viewers.

The south of Scotland will be one of the first areas to switch over. Digital UK has promised improved signals and better coverage before making changes.

Mr Moore raised his concerns with David Cairns MP at Scottish questions in the House of Commons.

He said many of his constituents faced receiving a fraction of the digital channels which should be available to them.

'Huge number'

"The minister will be aware that a huge number of people in rural areas depend on relay transmitters for their television signal," said Mr Moore.

"Under current digital switchover plans, these people will only receive a fraction of the available channels."

In his response Mr Cairns paid tribute to the Borders Digital Forum initiative and said he believed Ofcom should be considering this matter.
