Alarm over digital TV awareness
The Borders will be part of the first area to go digital in 2008
A Borders MP is calling for more information to be given out as the region prepares to be the first to switch to digital television.

The appeal comes after a survey found 38% of adults did not know about plans to switch off analogue TV signals.

The Border TV region will be the first to change, in 2008, prompting Lib Dem MP Michael Moore to call for action.

As well as raising awareness he would like to see financial help for low income families coping with the switch.

Digital UK, the body set up by the TV industry to oversee the switchover, said a public information campaign would be launched in May.

"This survey shows that Digital UK cannot be complacent, particularly as the Border TV region will be the first to switch over to digital in just two years time," Mr Moore said.

The Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk MP said that although awareness in the Borders was higher than average it was crucial everyone knew about the change well before 2008.

He has arranged a meeting with the new regional manager of Digital UK to discuss his concerns next month.
