Waverley works all clear to start
The Waverley line through the Borders closed in 1969
Clearance works are set to start on the Waverley line project
The first works on the 155m reopening of the Waverley railway line have been scheduled to start within weeks.

Clearance operations will allow access to the line for detailed ground investigation and topographical survey works, due to start in the spring.

A statement from the Waverley Railway Project said work was being carried out now to minimise environmental impact.

Scottish Borders Council leader David Parker said it was an "important step" forward for the project.

He said the scheme remained firmly on schedule for construction works to begin in 2008.

It is hoped that trains will be running between Edinburgh and Tweedbank near Galashiels by 2011.
