Greens renew rail extension call

The Greens want the line to run from Edinburgh to Carlisle
A Green MSP has renewed his call for complete restoration of the Waverley rail line from Edinburgh to Carlisle.

South of Scotland member Chris Ballance said plans to re-open the line should not be restricted to what he calls the "Galashiels-Edinburgh commuter link".

He has urged the Scottish Executive to continue the line on through to Hawick and down to the border.

Funding has been put in place to allow the trains to run between Edinburgh and Tweedbank by 2011.
