Delay for historic street scheme
Dumfries. Pic by Undiscovered Scotland.
A historic Dumfries street is due for a major overhaul.
A 250,000 regeneration scheme for the Friars Vennel in Dumfries has been delayed due to contractual problems.

Councillors have agreed to appoint a contractor in February with work beginning in April, four weeks later than planned.

Traders had voiced worries about disruption caused by the works programme which includes the complete resurfacing of the street.

It is hoped contractors will work in the evenings due to increased daylight.

The move comes just as new street lighting is installed on the historic street.

Chairman of the town centre regeneration sub committee, John Fortheath, said the delay was disappointing but could ease disruption.
