Summit meeting over school future
Langlands School
Parents and education officials will discuss the school's future
The future of a closure-threatened school for children with learning difficulties in Dumfries is to be discussed at a special meeting.

Education officials and parents will meet to seek a solution to the situation Langlands School.

Council proposals to replace the school with a new unit at Dumfries High School were voted down at area committee.

Some parents have argued that the current site should be retained as the new scheme is not appropriate.

Families and education officials are now due to meet as part of a consultation process.

Building survey

Some parents have said that the new unit is unsuitable for many of the pupils at the school - a view endorsed by the Nithsdale area committee.

However, education officials have a number of concerns about the current site - including its social isolation.

A survey has been undertaken to look at the costs of refurbishing the current building.

It is hoped that the two sides can agree a future plan for the pupils still at the school.

Primary age pupils at Langlands have already been transferred to a unit in Georgetown Primary.
