Objections pile up to market plan
Dumfries town centre
Objections have been received to market plans in the town centre
A bid to operate a town centre market in Dumfries three days a week has sparked opposition from local traders.

A total of 77 objections have been lodged - many from High Street shops like Marks and Spencer and stores in the Loreburne shopping centre.

The proposal for the three-day market has been tabled by Town Dynamics.

The firm already holds a licence to operate a Saturday market, but is looking for permission to set up stalls on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

The plans have met with strong opposition from local traders.

Objectors claim the market adds nothing to the town in terms of trade and visitors.

The application for extending the number of market days will be considered by local councillors next week.
