The applications at Duns and Eyemouth are part of a �60m public private partnership for the region which also includes Earlston High School.

A number of concerns have been expressed by the public about the proposals for the two schools.

Planning officers are recommending the go ahead for both projects with a number of conditions.

A new site on land south of Gunsgreen Park in Eyemouth has been selected for the school.

That scheme would include sports pitches and an all-weather facility.

There will also be an associated wind turbine to help cut energy costs.

Some reservations have been expressed locally, with residents concerned about noise, light pollution and litter problems.

There are some local concerns about the new Berwickshire High

They are also worried that the proposed parking provision might not be adequate.

Planning officials are recommending the project for approval although they have added 15 conditions which they want councillors to impose.

These include landscaping, planting and footpath details.

At Duns it is proposed the replacement for the existing Berwickshire High School should be built on a site across the road.

There are still concerns about the low-lying nature of the site and Berwickshire Civic Society oppose the scheme.

They claim the new school building will detract from the appearance of the existing Berwickshire High which is of listed status.

Planning officials are again recommending approval with a list of conditions.
